"Dawn" by H. Rider Haggard is a novel published in 1884. Haggard's first novel began with a chance encounter: a glimpse of a beautiful young woman in church inspired him to create a heroine named Angela. Written while studying for the Bar, the manuscript went through multiple drafts and titles before finding a publisher. Though Haggard later felt it contained too many "amateur villains" and earned him only ten pounds initially, the novel eventually achieved extraordinary success in later years.
